November at the Hoffman Gallery
This November, the Hoffman Gallery presents Word & Image, a collaborative exhibition bringing together 12 writers and 12 visual artists with ties to the North Oregon Coast.
Word & Image is rooted in the tradition of ekphrasis, writing created in response to visual art, but expands the form into a two-way creative exchange. In this project, writers and artists are paired together, then invited to respond to one another’s work through poetry, prose, visual art, and mixed media. The result is a layered conversation between language and image, where each piece opens a new way of seeing the other.
The 2026 exhibition features work by Anna Kaufman, Barry Calaverese, Cathi Howell, Ciel Downing, Constance Waisanen, Dayna Collins, Gwen Kirk, Jan Branham, Jennifer Nightingale, Katja Biesanz, Lori Dillon, and Susan Eliot, with writing by Cate Gable, Christina Burress, Coda Canepa, Florence Sage, Janet Ebert, Katrina Gould, Linda Hoard, Logan Garner, Margaret Chula, Martha Johnson, Merridawn Duckler, and Phyllis Mannan.
Together, these artists and writers explore place, memory, ecology, grief, beauty, daily life, the natural world, and the many ways creative work can reflect, deepen, and transform another person’s vision.
The exhibition opens Thursday, November 5, 2026, and continues through Saturday, November 28, 2026.
Join us for the opening reception and Word & Image release event on Saturday, November 7, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
